Сергей Васильевич Дорофеев - организатор и научный руководитель исследований по морским котикам

Abstract

Изучение биологии и промысла дальневосточной белухи позволило Сергею Васильевичу дать обоснованные рекомендации по развитию ее промысла. Совершая разведывательные полеты над льдами Охотского моря, он обнаружил многочисленные залежки тюленей и доказал возможность организации на Дальнем Востоке ледового судового зверобойного промысла. Уже в 1932 г. в Охотском море начала работать первая зверобойная шхуна "Нажим", а теперь этот вид промысла тюленей получил очень широкое развитие на всем Дальнем Востоке. В те же годы началась подготовка к организации крупного китобойного промысла в дальневосточных морях. Сергей Васильевич участвовал в научной подготовке к плаванию первенца советской китобойной промышленности - флотилии "Алеут". Коллектив авторов настоящего сборника, в котором публикуются первые итоги систематических научных исследований по морским котикам, которыми на протяжении нескольких лет руководил Сергей Васильевич, посвящает этот сборник памяти большого ученого, руководителя и воспитателя молодежи - профессора Сергея Васильевича Дорофеева./S.V. Dorofeev began studying sea mammals in 1923. He worked on the White Sea studying the biology of the Greenland seal. Here the method of count of the Greenland seal (the White Sea population) with the help of aerophotography was worked up by him. Later the proceeded investigations of the biology of Caspian seal and the hunting of this species in ice conditions. In 1929-1930 S.V. Dorofeev was one of the heads of the Soviet research expedition on mammals of Far Eastern Seas. After World War II he was appointed a scientific chief of the expedition surveying ice rookeries of seals in the Greenland and Norwegian Sea. In 1957 the Interim Covention on Conservation of the North Pacific fur seals was established and Sergei Vasilyevich became an organizer and a scientific chief of all the Soviet fur seal investigations. He began studying population dynamics of fur seals. As a result of his activities systematic investigations of fur seals were organized. First results of these investigations are collected in the present volume. S.V. Dorofeev was known not only as an explorer. For many years he has read the corse in the Moscow. Fish Industry Institute, guided the works of students presented for diploma and trained young scientific personnel for the research institutes of our contry. He wrote many scientific papers which are a permanent guidance for the workers of hunt industry until now.
