Comprehensive approach to fisheries management in the Black Sea

Abstract

Given scantiness of living resources in coastal waters of the Black Sea and their vulnerability, we should prioritize careful and non-waste utilization of marine living resources, development activities aimed at increase of the basin productivity, fisheries management based on concideration of physical and geographical, biological, social, and economic factors. We should highlight the following most urgent tasks: 1) to restrict fishing with active fishing gear in coastal waters of the Black Sea and use mainly passive fishing gear adequate to the available resources; 2) to develop sprtive and recreational fishing; 3) to increase biological diversity and fisheries potential in the cosatal ecosystems through development of aquaculture and construction of artificaial reefs.
