Fish Catch Forecasting Efficiency on the Freshwater Reservoirs

Abstract

The paper describes the main problems of fisheries research and the organization of fishing in inland freshwater bodies. Reasons for the low efficiency of the current exploitation of freshwater fisheries resource base are analyzed and ways to improve its development are shown. The necessity of the transition from the management of catch quotas to the number and types of fishing gears on the reservoirs, on the basis of their performance, species and size selectivity. Basic methodological problems and errors encountered in the course of the fish stocks assessment are discussed; the need to enhance the role of experts in commercial fishing in these studies is noted.
