Предложены рекомендации по защите отечественных интересов в области рыболовства в южной части Тихого океана./Current status of the jack mackerel's stocks in the South Pacific is estimated on the basis of Russian and Chilean research, data, fishery statistics, as well as taking into account various hypotheses about the population structure of this species. It was concluded that the condition of stock from the EEZ waters of Chile is depressed and the oceanic stock's condition is stable. Depression of the coastal stock is caused by excessive exploitation by fishery. The international legal aspects of fishery in the South Pacific were considered in connection with the establishment of the regional fisheries management organisations. Recommendations for the protection of national interests in the field of fishery in the South Pacific were offered in the paper.
